  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 5 eggs + 2 yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup hot coffee

For the Glossy Chocolate Frosting

  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ⅓ cups sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • cup sour cream

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare & Preheat

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • Grease and line two cake pans

Step 2: Make the Batter

  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl
  • Add oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla
  • Pour in hot coffee and mix until smooth

Step 3: Bake the Cake

  • Divide batter evenly into pans
  • Bake for 35–45 minutes
  • Let cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to rack

Step 4: Make the Frosting

  • Melt butter and chocolate together
  • Add sugar, cocoa, and salt
  • Slowly mix in cream and sour cream
